Newborn Photography Vancouver
Bringing your baby home is one of the most emotional and beautiful seasons of life. It’s tender, exhausting, magical, and it passes in a blur.
If you’ve booked an in-home newborn session in Vancouver, BC, you might be wondering:
What do I need to clean?
What should we wear?
What if my baby cries?
Take a deep breath. I’ve got you.
Here’s exactly how to prepare so your session feels relaxed, natural, and meaningful.
You don’t need a perfect home
Let me say this clearly: your home does NOT need to look like a magazine.
In-home newborn photography is about connection, not perfection.
I look for:
Natural window light
Neutral spaces (bedrooms, living rooms, nursery)
Areas with soft textures
Before I arrive, simply:
I’ll gently guide you toward the best light in your home, often near a window, a bed, or a quiet corner where your family naturally gathers
Remove bright or distracting items
Make the bed with a neutral blanket if possible
That’s it. No deep cleaning required.
Your baby won’t remember spotless counters, but you’ll remember holding them in the space you first brought them home to.
What to wear for your Newborn Session
Vancouver light is often soft and dreamy (even on cloudy days!), so neutral tones photograph beautifully.
Think of clothing that feels like home soft, lived-in, and comfortable. Pieces you can sink into while holding your baby.
For moms:
Flowy dresses
Cozy knit sweaters
Simple neutral tops
For dads:
Neutral henleys
Soft sweaters
Linen or cotton shirts
Avoid:
Busy patterns
Bright neon colors
Large logos
Most importantly, wear something you feel comfortable and confident in. When you feel relaxed, it shows in the photos.
A well-fed Baby is a happy baby
A well-fed baby is usually much more relaxed and content, which helps us capture those cozy, snuggly moments.
And if your baby needs to pause for another feeding during the session? That’s completely okay.
In-home newborn sessions are always baby-led. We move slowly, take breaks when needed, and follow your little one’s rhythm. There is no rush.
My Style: Baby Stays Close
One thing that makes my newborn photography style unique is that your baby will never leave your arms or your side.
In fact, I may not even touch your precious baby at all. I don’t come in to pose your baby I come in to witness your connection. Your baby already knows exactly where they feel safest: in your arms.
I focus on natural, lifestyle moments, cuddling on the bed, rocking by the window, gentle kisses, quiet connection. Your baby stays safe, comfortable, and exactly where they belong: with you.
There are no complicated poses, no props, and no pressure. Just your family, your home, and your love.
Keep the house warm
Newborns love warmth, and a cozy space helps them feel calm and settled in your arms.
Keeping the house warm slightly before the session can make those quiet, snuggly moments feel even more comfortable for your baby.
Trust the process
One of the most common worries I hear from Vancouver parents is:
“What if my baby doesn’t cooperate?”
Let me gently remind you, babies don’t need to “perform.”
If they’re awake? We capture those bright eyes.
If they’re sleepy? We capture those soft, curled details.
If they cry? We capture you soothing them.
With a calm, observational approach, I create space for families to simply be allowing real moments to unfold naturally.
Just as you are, with your Baby
You don’t need to know how to pose or do anything perfectly.
Simply do what you naturally love to do with your baby, cuddle them, rock them, kiss their cheeks, sit in the nursery, sway by the window. Those real moments are what make the most meaningful images.
I’ll gently guide you if needed, but mostly I’ll observe and document the connection that’s already there.
In-home newborn sessions are slow, relaxed, and baby-led. There’s no pressure, just space to be together. 🤍
