If you're expecting a baby and you've started looking into newborn photography, you've probably found yourself wondering: what exactly am I booking? What does a newborn session actually include? And how do I know what's right for my family?

These are exactly the right questions to ask. A professional newborn session is an investment, in time, in money, and in something you'll carry with you for the rest of your life. So let me walk you through everything that's included in a session with me, from the moment you reach out to the day your gallery lands in your inbox.

Before the Newborn Session - The Preparation

A pre-session questionnaire Once you book, I'll send you a simple questionnaire to fill out at your own pace. It covers everything I need to know, what your home is like, the light you have, who will be joining the session, and anything special you'd like me to know about your baby or family. It takes just a few minutes and means I arrive on the day already prepared, so nothing is left to chance and every moment counts.

Timing guidance The newborn stage is fleeting and timing matters. I'll help you understand the ideal window for your session, typically within the first two to three weeks of your baby's arrival, when they're most sleepy, most curled, and most perfectly, heartbreakingly new. We'll stay flexible around your baby's arrival and keep communication open as your due date approaches.

A welcome guide Before your session you'll receive everything you need to prepare, what to expect on the day, how to prepare your home, what to have on hand, and simple tips that help the session flow beautifully. Nothing is left as a surprise.

Vancouver Newborn Session Itself

An in-home session in your own space I come to you. Your home, with its particular light, its familiar smells, the nursery you prepared, the bed you've barely slept in, is the most meaningful backdrop your newborn session could have. No studio, no artificial sets, no props that don't belong to your story. Just your family, in your space, exactly as you are.

A relaxed, unhurried pace A newborn session with me is never rushed. We follow your baby's lead completely. If they need to feed, we pause. If they need to be held and settled, we take the time. If the light shifts and opens up beautifully in another room, we move. The session flows around your baby, not the other way around.

The session typically runs between 1 to 2 hours.

Natural light, no flash I work entirely in natural light. The soft, gentle light that comes through your windows — morning light, afternoon light, the particular way your home is lit at different times of day — creates a warmth and authenticity that studio lighting simply cannot replicate. It's also infinitely more comfortable for your newborn and for you.

Connection-focused photography I photograph the details, the tiny curled fingers, the impossibly small feet, the way your baby's whole face fits in the palm of a hand. And I photograph the connections, the way you hold your baby, the way you look at them, the particular quiet that fills a room when a newborn is sleeping in someone's arms.

No stiff posing. No uncomfortable positions. No wrapping babies in unnatural ways. Just honest, tender, real images of your family in these first precious days.

Siblings and family members welcome If you have older children, a partner, grandparents who have travelled to meet the baby, everyone is welcome. Some of the most beautiful images from newborn sessions are the ones that capture the whole family meeting each other for the first time. I'll work with everyone naturally, including the toddler who isn't entirely sure about sharing the spotlight yet.

After your newborn Session — Delivery and Gallery

Professional editing Every image I deliver is professionally edited, colour corrected, carefully retouched, and finished to a standard I'm genuinely proud to put my name on. I don't deliver bulk unedited files. I deliver a curated gallery of images I would be proud to print and put on a wall.

Your private online gallery Your images will be delivered through a beautiful private online gallery within two to three weeks of your session. From there you can download your digital images, share them with family, and order prints and wall art directly, with delivery to your door.

50+ beautifully edited images Every session includes a minimum of 50 edited images, though in practice my galleries almost always contain more. I would rather give you more images you love than fewer that feel like enough.

Print ordering Your gallery includes a print shop where you can order fine art prints, canvases and wall art directly. I believe deeply in images that live outside of a phone screen, on the wall above the crib, in a frame on the bookshelf, in an album that your child will one day hold in their own hands.

What Makes a Vancouver In-Home Newborn Session Different

There are many ways to photograph a newborn. What I offer is a specific, intentional approach, and it's worth understanding what makes it different.

I don't use props, elaborate setups or styled scenes. I don't pose babies in baskets or position them in ways that require extensive post-processing to look natural. What I create is documentary and lifestyle, real moments, captured honestly, in the environment where your family actually lives.

The result is images that feel true. Images that, ten years from now, will show you exactly what those first days felt like, not a polished, constructed version of them, but the real thing. The particular light in your living room. The way your baby smelled. The exhaustion and the wonder, all tangled up together.

That is what I come to capture. And it is what I will deliver.
